I USE IT EVERYDAY!Dec 05, 2010
By nariam.decs I got this homedics model cushion as a b-day gift, upon my specific request that is :) I wanted a massage chair with heat, since I have frequent lower back pain, and get knots right between the shoulder blades. It's definetly doing the job! This cushion has been strapped to one of my living room chairs since I got it, that is over 4 months now, and I'm not planning to put it away. My family and friends fight over it now when they come visit, they seem to love it, too. I'm even considering to buy another, or a similar one, as a Christmas gift to a couple of family members, since they really enjoy it when they come over. I had done some previous research and comparing features of various models on the Homedics webpage before deciding on this one, and I highly recommend you do so, too. In the end for the price and its features, this has resulted to be a pretty good and complete choice of what I was looking for. It includes both rolling and shiatsu with 3 programs each to concentrate on 3 areas, optional vibration, stays at a desired spot which I appreciate on my trouble areas. The heat option is the feature I really wanted, and it adds an amazing and relaxing, warm feeling to the massage. The reasons why I'm giving it 4* are: at times when using the shiatsu, the rollers get kind of a squeaky noise, maybe for the good use it's being given though. The rollers could be smoother or the padding a bit thicker, and sometimes it feels too rough if you're not wearing a thick layer clothing. I wonder regarding the 1* critical reviews, if any of those users did not take out the screw with holds the mechanism so as not to get broken while being shipped. There is a warning to remove it attached to the chair impossible to miss, otherwise it will cause permanent failure to it. In that case, it would explain why several have said it broke within the first uses. You should also read ALL of the instructions and recommendations of use, because it helps you understand about overuse or misuse. I'll end up saying that, here at Amazon is where you get the best price for this model. HOPE YOU ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS my family, friends, and I DO.

Better than I expectedJan 06, 2011

I ordered this back massager along with Homedics Therapist Select SP-10HD Shiatsu Pillow. They work very well together.
For a general whole-back massage, this massage cushions does a very good job. Its range of motion is able to cover most of my back, from mid- to lower-lumbar all the way up to my shoulders. I am not exceedingly tall in stature, but I would guess that its range would be mostly adequate for even those who are 6' or so.
I am somewhat disappointed by the "roller massage" mode. I'm sure it is fine for some, but does little for me.
The shiatsu mode, however, is exactly what I was looking for. It digs in deep, and the addition of heat makes it a pleasant experience. Turning on the vibration in addition to the shiatsu is also effective.
I can tell that for those whose back muscles are not as over-triggered as mine, that the deepness might be uncomfortable. It actually is for me too sometimes, especially if I had seen my regular massage therapist the day before and those muscles are already over-worked (my first clue that I need to wait a bit longer for the muscles to recover). I have found, like others, that wearing a thicker sweatshirt or using a towel between me and it softens the massage in those cases. Mostly, however, I don't find it necessary to do this.
I mentioned the Homedics Therapist Select SP-10HD Shiatsu Pillow because while this cushion does a good job for the whole back, I find that the pillow does a much better job for working on a particular knot or area. They are a good team.

My wife loves this cushion!Oct 09, 2009
By S. L. Maxwell My wife received this for her birthday and she is loving it. Being a school administrator is sometimes stressful and she finds this massage cushion to be a great tool to help relieve the stress. It accommodates people of different height easily and does a great job of massaging the back and neck.

Low quality, poor designFeb 03, 2010
By Reddy Reviewer This extended track model lasted one day then quit completely. The motors froze mid track and the control will no longer turn on. I've had better quality back massagers from Homedics.
The unit made a loud rubbing noise near the top of the track out of the box which may be a defect or faulty design for the extended track model.
One major problem is that the middle of the traveling bar does not set back far enough and rubs hard against the spine. Very uncomfortable.
The vibrating feature is not worth the extra money and is too harsh.

Nice massagerJun 21, 2011
By ACL Nice massager. Don't use it much, though. But when I do, it sure does relax the muscles. Not very loud but is powerful.
