5Great little soakersJun 08, 2009
By LDS
I bought these without a review and am very happy with the results. They are thinner than some soakers, making them easier to wind around the flowerbeds. They also have a nice even drip that provides enough water at a very low pressure setting. Two hoses together water my bed with a slow all day drip. I was also pleased to see that they are made in the USA and have a 7 year warranty, better than most soakers out there. I am so happy with them I am going to order several more to place around the rest of my garden.

I got these soaker hoses to hookup to a 65 gallon rain barrel that I also purchased from amazon. I was pleased to find that even with very low pressure coming out of my barrel, these hoses seem to do a nice job watering my flower beds. In a 4-5 hours all 65 gallons drains into my bed. I will probably add a few more into my vegetable garden.

4Very slow soaking...Aug 31, 2009
By Rosy Garden "Paula"
I like the fact that it didn't spray to soak the ground, however it took forever to soak the grounds around my plants. I had to loop it pretty close to my plants to make sure that my plants would get the water. It soak more down into the ground than out and around the hoes. If you want the water to stay next to the plant than this soaker hoes would work great for you.

1Make your own soaker hose...Jul 21, 2010
By Larry F. Rogers
This year has been a bit of a learning experience, creating the largest garden we have ever by far. We have become noted for the size and variety in our garden and neighbors regularly drop in just to check our progress and walk the garden to see what goodies are erupting.

We thought soaker hoses would be a great idea and bought two. $30. We integrated them slowly into our garden, getting out the kinks and letting them soften so they could be well placed.

In about a week we were getting reasonable results, but the process is so slow. You really could use one hundred feet of soaker hose for a 10x10 area to actually soak the soil in a reasonable amount of time (say 2-3 hours). But we did the best we could with what we had.

The results were spotty at best but for two weeks we used them. In the immediate vicinity of the soaker hose, the ground would get soaked, but only about six inches around the hose. Most of our plants would have died of thirst using this method.

Then, disaster. We decided to try to reduce evaporation and just let a slow trickle run over night. One of the soaker hoses ruptured. It flooded a 16 square foot section of our garden, and made an absolute mess. By the time we woke up in the morning, the damage was done and the waste of water was shameful.

Figuring it was a fluke, we patched using duct tape and tried again. Two days later, our other hose ruptured. We patched it and there were three more ruptures over the ensuing days. When the hose ruptures, a hole opens up and continues to spread and the water finds the path of least resistance through the hole. Patching is worthless, the tape works for a little while, but then it gives out.

Our advice. MAKE YOUR OWN!! We made several soaker hoses from old cheap hoses we were no longer using by using a small drill bit and just drilling holes. The hoses are much stronger, never rupture and, while a pain in the butt to drill out, will likely last years.

Soaker hoses are a cute idea, but they don't work well.

4Good hoses just wish the flow was better!!Apr 21, 2010

We hooked it up today(got it yesterday on Tuesday) our rows are 94' long and so far it is working gr8!!! Will post a picture later on today if it all looks gr8 and so far am happy since we have a well and if it conserves water like it says and a sprinkler waters whole garden and seems a waste since we only need to water rows and I will be buying more of these since we got 20 rows & watering each row plus a a half row for about 30 mins. each and see if that will be enough!
"UPDATE" after trying out the soaker hoses and the 50' by itself worked gr8 on the short rows but adding the 2nd line to do a 94' rows we have didn't do so good. We removed the baffle /pressure reducer insert on the 2nd 50' we attached just to see if the water flow would increase but it did only slightly. We did find out that the newly plowed garden was still soft and sunk in some since we hadn't had a good rain to tighten up soil but it is good on the crops that are already getting some size to them like the tomatoes and cabbage but there is not enough pressure from our well to force the water to the end of the 100' combination soaker hose even after removing the baffle on the 2nd extention so we got a Y to run the 2 hoses and doing 2 half rows at a time. If anyone has an ideas to help the flow please let me know!
Have a picture of one short 65' row at the right and the 2 rows on left we had to soak both sides but was toooo time consuming and seems using the 2 50' with Y will be working the best! So will use an ordinary garden hose to attach and extend to do two sections/half rows at a time
And yes, if you let water run for a few hours it would work ok but the travel flow of water fizzles out some through the 2nd 50' when attached and will try to attach a picture here also!
